Navi Mumbai is a twin of Mumbai city. It was developed in 1972 and it is the largest planned city of the world with the total area of 344 km and 163 km under the NMMC. Water supply infrastructure has been planned by dividing the entire
city into 14 nodes. Most of the potables water comes from CIDCO's
Hetawane Dam, Barve Dam. Electricity in the city is provided by
Mahavitaran (Maharashtra state Electricity Distribution Company LTD.).
The sewerage system in Navi Mumbai is entirely underground, and runs on
gravity and pumping mechanisms. Landline telephone services are
government owned (MTNL) with eleven telephone exchange in Navi Mumbai.
Both GSM and CDMA mobile services are available in the city. The main
services providers are Vodafone, Reliance, Airtel, BPL group, Reliance
Infocom, Garuda mobile and Tata indicom. |
