FEATURES OF NAVI MUMBAI

Navi Mumbai is a twin of Mumbai city. It was developed in 1972 and it is the largest planned city of the world with the total area of 344 km and 163 km under the NMMC. The costliest and the most developed nodes of Navi Mumbai are VASHI and NERUL. NMMC is also rated amongst the richest corporation in ASIA.

On  17 March 1970, CIDCO was incorporated and its sole purpose is was to plan, maintain and develop the township of Navi MUMBAI. Privately owned land covering 86 villages and measuring 15,954 hectares and further villages measuring 2,780 hcetares were acquired the government  of Maharashtra.
 
INFRASTRUCTURE : The National Geography Channel has declared  Navi Mumbai as one of the best cities in the World. The city boasts a reliable supply of electricity from various sources and excellent motoring conditions with numerous flyovers, broad road and parking lots.
TRANSPORTATION: The most common forms of transportation in Navi Mumbai are the red NMMT buses and suburban trains. NMMT buses are similar to the best buses, auto rickshaws and taxis are also a popular mode of transport.
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT: The new International Airport for Navi Mumbai destined for the KOPRA- PANVEL area, will built through public-private partnership(PPP) with private sector partnership having 74% equity and the Airport Authority Of India(AAI) and Maharashtra government (through city and industrial development corporation ) each holding 13%.
UTILITY SERVICES: Water supply infrastructure has been planned by dividing the entire city into 14 nodes. Most of the potables water comes from CIDCO's Hetawane Dam, Barve Dam. Electricity in the city is provided by Mahavitaran (Maharashtra state Electricity Distribution Company LTD.). The sewerage system in Navi Mumbai is entirely underground, and runs on gravity and pumping mechanisms. Landline telephone services are government owned (MTNL) with eleven telephone exchange in Navi Mumbai. Both GSM and CDMA mobile services are available in the city. The main services providers are Vodafone, Reliance, Airtel, BPL group, Reliance Infocom, Garuda mobile and Tata indicom.
